2013 MEAP Week Could Be the Last - Northern Michigan's News Leader

2013 MEAP Week Could Be the Last

October 9, 2013 -

It it MEAP week once again in Northern Michigan - elementary students through 9th graders take the Michigan Education Program Assessment each fall.

It's a comprehensive test that allows districts and schools to see how their students are progressing compared to state standards.

But pending legislation could take the MEAP test away forever - replacing it with a national test instead.

The Common Core State Standards initiative is supported by the National Governor's Association, and Michigan's own Rick Snyder says he's behind the transition.

9&10's Marisa McKay and photojournalist Anthony Zyber talked with administrators from Traverse City Public Schools about this year's MEAP and what's in store is the MEAP is replaced.
