Traverse City Commission Adopts Festival Moratorium

Posted: Updated:

There could be fewer festivals at the Open Space in Traverse City.

After several people in the community complained about "festival fatigue", the city commission started working to find ways to make everyone happy.

Last night, they adopted a festival moratorium.

That means there's a hold on applying to put on a festival.

Three festival committees who have already applied are exempt - Paella in the Park, Taste of Traverse City, and the Tall Ships Festival.

The hold will stay in place until December 16th, when the new commission will revisit the issue and decide where to go from there.
