LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- The DNR is collecting millions of trout and salmon eggs to boost Michigan's fish populations.

The fall egg-taking season is underway right now for wild chinook, coho salmon, and brown, rainbow, brook and lake trout.

The chinook salmon eggs are being collected in the Little Manistee River Weir this week.

Collections are also happening at the Platte River State Fish Hatchery Wier.

Most of the eggs will remain in Michigan, but some will go to Indiana and Illinois.
