Protocol Used for Michigan State Police Pursuits

Officers involved in a police chase have to follow a protocol to try and protect themselves, the public, and the suspect.

Michigan State Police says weather, time of day, location and several other factors are considered in a pursuit. Those conditions help the pursuing officer decide whether to continue or pull back.

The agency takes pursuits very seriously and have an entire section of their academy dedicated to learning the proper skills.

Overall, the goal is to catch the suspect and do it safely.

Fleeing and eluding police is considered a felony and likely to land you in jail.
