Father of Baby Kate Charged In Her Murder

Posted: Updated:

New charges filed in the case of Katherine "Baby Kate" Phillips, who disappeared more than two years ago.

The Michigan Attorney General, the Mason County Prosecutor, and other members of law enforcement announced open murder charges against Baby Kate's father, Sean Phillips.

Katherine Phillips was just 4 months old when she disappeared from her home in Ludington.

Sean Phillips is currently serving time for unlawful imprisonment related to the child's disappearance.

Her body has not been found and this summer botanists tried to find evidence of where Baby Kate may be.

The findings were taken to the Chicago Field Museum to be processed.

According to the attorney general, new evidence has him and other law enforcement convinced that Sean Phillips is responsible for his daughters death. Though it remains unclear what evidence led to the murder charge.

Sean Phillips was formally charged in Mason County court. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He will return to court later this month.

9&10's Breelynn Martin and Photojournalist Tony Zyber were in court for the arraignment and spoke with the Attorney General and the Mason County Sheriff about the case.
