Jhonny Peralta returns from 50-game suspension

Posted: Updated:

MIAMI (AP) -- Jhonny Peralta returned from a 50-game suspension Friday night, starting in left field for the Detroit Tigers against the Miami Marlins.

Suspended for his involvement with the Miami-based Biogenesis lab, Peralta started in the outfield for the first time in his major league career. Normally a shortstop, he played seven innings in left field Thursday during an instructional league game.

Jose Iglesias has taken over as the Tigers' shortstop.

Peralta batted fifth and is expected to play in all three games this weekend.
