Breakdown of The Affordable Care Act

Posted: Updated:

A quick breakdown on the Affordable Care Act.

Insurance plans must now cover preventative care at no cost, and there is a lifetime limit on how much you can pay out of pocket for health care.

People with preexisting conditions cannot be denied coverage.

Nearly everyone must be insured by 2014.

13 Michigan companies are offering a combined 142 plans.

Looking into the costs, there are bronze, silver and gold plans.

The lowest-cost silver plan will cover about 70% of someone's medical costs, and cost an average of $271 a month.

That's below the national average of $310 a month.

And there are tax credits available to help people making up to four times the poverty level.

We will have continuing coverage on the Affordable Care Act as it goes into effect Tuesday.
