Events Around Northern Michigan: Color War, Pet Adoption Day, Local-Fest

Posted: Updated:

If you don't have any plans this weekend, or maybe you're looking to try something new, we've got details on 3 events going on across northern Michigan that could be just what you're looking for.

First up is the Live United Color War. If you've ever heard of a color run, the color war is very similar. Instead of running a 5-k, participants are covered with paint dust as they make their way through an obstacle course. At the end, after everyone is covered in colorful paint dust, you can stick around for a dance party. The event is being held on the campus of Ferris State University in Big Rapids this Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m. You can register today for $12 or on tomorrow for $15. Money raised by the event will benefit the Mecosta-Osceola United Way.

Also coming up this Saturday 9&10 is actually co-hosting a Pet Adoption Day. Earlier this week we featured 3 pets that are expected to be there along with animals from 6 area shelters, all looking for homes . The event starts at 11:00 a.m. and goes until 2:00 p.m. at Flintfields in Acme as part of the Acme Fall Festival. If you're not looking to take home an animal right no, but still want to lend a hand, shelters are always looking for supply donations.

Last but not least, there's a festival going on in Traverse City designed to promote everything and anything that's made locally. The area's 6th Annual Local-Fest will be taking place this Sunday from noon to 6:00 p.m. in the OM Cafe parking lot. The festival is a way for people to celebrate anything and everything made locally in the Traverse City area. Local-Fest is free and family friendly.
