Events Around Northern Michigan: September 6 - 8

This weekend has some pretty great events planned for this weekend, here is a look at just a few of them!

On Saturday there is a 5K Walk to Cure Diabetes being put on by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. That's in Traverse City at Sunset Park on Front Street. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 10:00 a.m. It's a great opportunity to raise some money and awareness for Type 1 Diabetes, but also just a good way to get outside and enjoy yourself.

Also on Saturday, there is a blood drive fundraiser for Carter's Course. Carter's course is a memorial disc golf course being built by a local Kalkaska county family, honoring their son who died after he was born prematurely. We introduced you to Carter's dad back in August, and this is a great way to help them raise a little money to build the course. The disc golf course will be located at the Springfield Township Recreation Center once it's all finished. The blood drive will be held at the Kalkaska Senior Center from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Michigan Blood will be donating $10 towards Carter's Course for everyone that shows up to donate.

Plus, if you're a runner, a biker, a swimmer, or just an athlete in general, you might want to check out this event. Ogemaw County's Rifle River Recreation Area will be hosting a Water and Woods Mini TRYathlon. It's a "TRY"athlon because this event is serving as a stepping stone for anyone interested in doing a triathlon. Athletes will be completing shorter distances than the standard triathlon which, to give you an idea, consists of a 25 mile bike, 13.1 mile run, and nearly a mile swim. For this event adults will be doing a 6.5 mile bike, 3 mile run, and 500 meter swim. Kids will bike 2 miles, run 1, and swim 250 meters. Registration starts at 8:00, and costs $30 for adults and $20 for kids age 8 - 13.
