Hook and Hunting: Fishermen Notice Larger Salmon This Year

Posted: Updated:

The number of salmon biting this year isn't getting any bigger.

But the size of the salmon sure are.

Fishing charters around Northern Michigan say that the salmon are not as plentiful this year as others, but that they are larger.

A lot of salmon being caught have weighed in between 20 and 30 pounds.

In prior years, salmon on average have weighed in between 12 and 14 pounds.

Alewives contain a lot of oils and they are very nutritional for salmon which makes them grow larger in a short period of time.
