Man Accused of Hurting Girlfriend's 2 Year Old, Girl's Father Speaks Out

A northern Michigan man in court is accused of abusing his girlfriend's two year old daughter.

Manistee Police say Joshua Witkowski hurt the child on December 17, 2012.

Witkowski wasn't arrested until June 21st on charges of first degree child abuse.

The little girl spent almost a month in the hospital with blood in the brain and bruises.
Joshua Witkowski is charged with first degree child abuse for hurting a two-year-old girl.

The little girl's father is now speaking out about what Witkowski did, and the progress she has made in the eight months since the incident happened.

Steven Carey says his daughter Emma is nothing short of a miracle.

After months of investigation, Witkowski was arrested on June 21st.

As Witkowski faces possible prison time, if convicted, Emma continues to defy the odds despite having only use of half of her brain. The happy toddler recently celebrated her third birthday, and is learning to walk again.
