Heading back to school will be a lot easier for some families around Clare County because of some Community Connections.
More than 300 families got the help they need today thanks to many different groups.
Community connections hosted the event in Harrison in Clare County.
Mobile dentists, social workers and health professionals gathered to offer low-income families important resources.
Children were able to get a back pack filled with school supplies they will need when school starts up. The group had 500 on hand and ready to give away. Kids were also able to eat a full meal at the event. Community Connections fed more than 600 people and supplied more than 10,000 pounds of food.
It is an annual collaboration that takes a lot of volunteers. The community also puts together a Christmas event similar to this one, where leftover backpacks are given away as presents.
Parents taking advantage of the program say it gives them peace of mind knowing they don't have to worry about affording school supplies.
