Coast Guard Faces Challenges Assisting With Missing Family in Leelanau

Posted: Updated:

A search covering a lot of ground takes several agencies working together.

US Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City cooperated with the search -- lending some of their resources to search from above.

They were flying over the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore all day long, hoping to spot Elliott and the children.

The pilots say this search was different for them - typically they search over water.

They began by searching the shoreline, then the more clear areas in the trees.

They had teams of pilots flying until the family was found.
