Posted: Updated:

A Michigan State Police Officer from the Paw Paw Post passed away after midnight Tuesday morning.

Motor Carrier Officer Dennis Myers was taken off life support just after 12:00 AM Tuesday.

Officer Myers was involved in an off-duty one-car crash Monday, August 19 where he sustained critical head injuries.

Officer Myers was driving westbound on CR 352 just west of the Village of Decatur when his Honda Civic tires dropped onto the right shoulder.  He then crossed the centerline, and drove off the left shoulder before rolling over.

Officer Myers was wearing a seatbelt.

On the scene, emergency medical personnel were able to reestablish a pulse after Officer Myers was found in cardiac arrest.

He was taken to Bronson Hospital.

Through the Gift of Life program, Officer Myers' organs were donated so that some good could come out of this tragedy.

Officer Myers leaves behind his wife and two sons ages 9 and 11.

Officer Myers is recognized for his outstanding achievements including Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer of the Year in 2010.

He joined the department in 2001 at the Bridgman Post and transferred to the Paw Paw Post in 2007.
