No Swim Advisory For Eastern Upper Peninsula

Posted: Updated:

Heavy rain in the Sault Ste Marie area poses health risks to swimmers.

The Chippewa County Health Department issued a No Swim Advisory for public beaches on the St. Mary's River and Lake Superior shorelines.

The public beaches include the following: Sherman Park, Sault MI; Four Mile Beach, Soo Township;  Sugar Island Township Park, Sugar Island;  Brimley State Park, Superior Township.

Heavy rain is known to cause high levels of bacteria, specifically E. coli in the water.

The Health Department suggests that people should avoid swimming in these areas for at least 24 hours after the heavy rain.
