Posted: Updated:

Several homes had to be evacuated this afternoon because of a grass fire.

The fire was burning near Johnson Road and M-88 in Mancelona in Antrim County.

Fire crews say it started from a bon fire.

Five fire departments, three units from the DNR and four EMT were on the scene around 1 P.M.

The heat and dry weather mixed with strong winds made the fire worse and blew it southwest.

Two firefighters were taken to Kalkaska Memorial Health Center for smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion.

One firemen was released and the other was transferred to Munson Hospital.

The fire is now put out and crews are just monitoring hot spots.
