Michigan Firefighters In California To Help Fight Massive Fire

Posted: Updated:

A massive wildfire in California is now burning parts of Yosemite National Forest.

The so-called Rim Fire spread about 8 miles into the Park Friday.

At last report, the fire was just 2% contained.

Jumping flames and hilly terrain are making it very difficult for crews trying to get ahead of the fire.

In just a few hours, the fire grew 10,000 acres, now covering at least 63,000 acres, which equals about 100 square miles.

California Governor Jerry Brown has declared a State of Emergency for the area.

Evacuees say it's a terrifying ordeal.

More than 1,800 firefighters are trying to get the fire under control.

The Michigan DNR has also sent some firefighters out west to help.
