Ferris State's Art School To Merge With Grand Rapids Institute

Posted: Updated:

Grand Rapids Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) is merging with Ferris State's Kendall College of Art and Design.

With this merger, the Institute will be a subsidiary of Kendall college.

UICA has a new $8 million facility in Grand Rapids, but says lack of attendance is hurting its bottom line, and expenses are outpacing income. UICA was on the path to close this fall.

Ferris plans to pay off the urban institutes four million dollar debt as part of the agreement.

The Ferris State's Board of Governors still has to approve the merger.
