Detroit To Go Before Judge in October Over Right To File Bankruptcy

Posted: Updated:

A federal judge says Detroit's two pension systems can file longer eligibility objections to the city's Bankruptcy petition.

It includes the police and fire retirement system and its general retirement system.

Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr filed for Bankruptcy last month.

He says the city has $18 billion in debt, and the pension systems are the largest un-secured creditors.

A judge will hear arguments in October about whether the city has the right to file Bankruptcy.
