Holiday Road Opening Has Many Celebrating

Posted: Updated:

Today the Grand Traverse County Road Commission and Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians celebrate the fruits of their labor.

Holiday Road was officially opened Tuesday morning after two months of road improvements with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The road commission was un-able to fund the repairs needed on Holiday Road.

And when 2 millage attempts failed in the townships affected, the Tribe stepped in and was able to help by funding nearly 100% of the improvements.

The project cost $1.36 million.

Since the Tribe considers Holiday Road as part of their historic district, they were eligible to get funding through the Bureau of Indian Affairs Transportation Program.
