DNR Testing Bear That May Have Attacked Girl

On Saturday night a man in Selma Township shot and wounded a bear on his property because he says he feared for his safety.

It was two miles from where a bear attacked Abby Wetherell.
DNR officers tracked the bear but ultimately had to kill it due to it's injuries.

Now the DNR is testing to find out if it is the same black bear.

But as this an on-going evaluation, and it's not determined this bear was involved in Abby's attack, the Department of Natural Resources advises people to stay away from the area, and not to disturb the traps.

9 & 10's Marisa McKay and photojournalist Jeremy Erickson spoke to a DNR wildlife technician and a member of the law division to discuss how the public should react moving forward until this bear is found.
