Wineries Expect Great Harvest - Northern Michigan's News Leader

Wineries Expect Great Harvest

Posted: Updated:

The recent weather could mean a great year for northern Michigan's grape crop.

All the sunshine over the past few weeks is helping the crop really take off.

While it will not be a bumper crop like last year, wineries are very pleased.

The winemaker at Chateau Chantal says the sunny conditions with limited rain is helping the fruit develop. He says the style of the wines they make could change a little with the cooler summer weather but the quality of the grape will be excellent.

Bowers Harbor says while the growing season is not moving along as quickly as last year the winery is still in great shape.

Harvesting varies depending on the type of grape but some wineries expect to start harvesting in the beginning of October.

Kyle Mitchell and Photojournalist Jacob Johnson have more on what vineyards expect for the harvest this year.
