Idlewild Celebrates First Homecoming

After years of being quiet, a northern Michigan community will come alive this weekend with the sounds of music and laughter.

Idlewild will celebrate their first annual homecoming.

While it will be a chance to enjoy music and one another, homecoming organizers say it will have a much greater meaning, all thanks to the community's roots.

Idlewild was once an entertainment mecca, and the place for African Americans to vacation.

John Meeks, the President of the Idlewild African American Chamber of Commerce, says it was a no brainer for the community with such a deep history to have a homecoming.

He hopes this event is just the beginning of a revival.
