Michigan has cited a Canadian-based energy company for dumping 300 to 400 gallons of water and brine into the ground at a hydraulic fracking well in Kalkaska.
The state Department of Environmental Quality issued a violation notice this week to Encana Oil and Gas Inc. for the incident which occurred July 15.
Encana was cleaning out the well to more accurately perform tests. But water pumped back up to the surface and leaked from a tank.
The Department says there is no damage to the environment. Encana cleaned the site quickly and effectively.
No fine was issued to the company.
