Special Meeting Held To Discuss Issues Surrounding Sentencing of Former Teacher

A special meeting was held to discuss issues surrounding the conviction and sentencing of a former Rose City school teacher.

Neal Erickson was sentenced to 15-30 years in prison earlier this month for criminal sexual conduct against a student.

During Erickson's sentencing, the victim's family found out several teachers had written letters to the judge asking for a lighter sentence for Erickson.

Since then, the Janczewski family has spoken publicly about their disappointment towards the teachers and board secretary Mike Egan who sat with Erickson's family the day he was sentenced.

After speaking out, the Janczewski family was also had their garage burned down and their home vandalized. Both cases are still being investigated.

Throughout Monday's meeting, the family along with a number of parents and other community members voiced their opinion. The majority of people want Egan to step down and the teachers to lose their jobs.

Egan was present at the meeting and said he would not be stepping down.

A petition has been filed to recall Egan.
