UPDATE: Woman Dies after Osceola County Motorcycle Accident

UPDATE: The female passenger, Rebekah Landis, 52 from Battle Creek, passed away at Spectrum Health Hospital in Grand Rapids after receiving fatal injuries.

Wednesday 7-24-13 at 1:50pm, Osceola County Sheriffs were dispatched to a serious motorcycle accident on southbound US-131.  Police say the accident involved one motorcycle with a driver and passenger. 

The rear tire blew out, causing the 55-year-old female passenger to be launched from the cycle, striking the roadway. She was airlifted to Spectrum Health Grand Rapids. She is listed as in critical condition as of 7-25-13.

The driver, a 52-year-old male, received minor injuries and was treated on the scene by EMS personnel. 

Traffic on southbound US-131 was shut down for the Aero-Med helicopter to land to pick up the victim. Later, one lane opened, allowing deputies to investigate.  The highway opened completely at 4:10pm.

Both riders were wearing helmets.

This accident is still under investigation.
