Sailors Compete In The Chicago To Mackinac Race

With the Race to Mackinac well underway, sailboats continue to cross the finish line on Mackinac Island.

Light winds at times have caused this to be a slower race.

Many of the boats are now expected to finish Tuesday morning.

That can change at anytime, however, depending on weather conditions.

With around 300 sailboats competing, the island is anxiously awaiting their arrival.

9&10's Christina Vecchioni has more details from the island.


Boaters are making their way to Mackinac Island for the annual Chicago to Mackinac Boat Race.

The race kicked off yesterday morning around 10 a.m

The 105 year old race is the oldest annual freshwater distance race in the world.

Boaters are expected to start making their way into Mackinac tonight and tomorrow.

The trip is 333 miles long and more than 300 boats compete each year.
