Bicyclist Killed in Emmet County

Posted: Updated:

A Petoskey man is dead after he was hit by a car while riding his bike Thursday.

The Emmet County Sheriff's Office says Dan Adams was riding his bike near Luce Street and Oden Road, near Oden, when he was struck by a car.

Adams had been riding along the new bike path that connects Petoskey to Alanson.

He was taken to the hospital, but later passed away as a result of his injuries.

The accident is still under investigation.

The Top of Michigan Trails Council warns there are no signs posted on the bike path yet, and that it's not safe. They say despite people already using it, it's not technically open yet.

They have barriers at the major intersections, but not at the intersection where this accident happened.
