Governor Signs Wetlands Reform

Posted: Updated:

The governor just signed a bill that's referred to as the Wetlands Protection Law, but some environmental groups fear the new law could actually do more harm than good.

Michigan and New Jersey are the only two states allowed to operate their own wetlands regulation program.

The state says this new law will help keep that control.

Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council disagrees, however, saying the state made too many changes and that Michigan still is not in compliance with federal standards.

That will eventually be up to the Environmental Protection Agency to decide.
