Monday's Local Sports Coverage (7/1)

Posted: Updated:

Goodbye June, hello July!  On this first day of the month, Greg Miller took a trip down to Big Rapids to help welcome the new head coach of the Ferris State men's basketball program.

Andy Bronkema has spent the last six years as an assistant on the Bulldogs' staff and has been instrumental in recruiting during that time period.  He was very excited today to finally accomplish his dream of becoming a head coach.

Andy has local ties.  He's a native of McBain and helped lead the Ramblers to a state title in boys hoops back in 2002.  He was also a two-time collegiate All-American at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids.

Bronkema inherits a Bulldogs team that went 14-13 last season, however they also were an impressive 10-1 at home inside Joe Wink Arena.  The team also returns 11 of 13 players from last year's squad.
