UPDATE: New Splash Pad in Clinch Park Experiencing Sewage Backup

Posted: Updated:

Officials say Traverse City's new Splash Pad did not have some permits that are typically required.

The park is temporarily closed after sewage began backing up into the children's play area Sunday morning while kids were playing in the water.

An engineering specialist gave the city permission to open without a construction permit or state license to operate permit.

The city also didn't get electrical and mechanical permits from the county.

Park problems at the brand new Clinch Park Splash Pad in Traverse City.

The water has been shut off until further notice.

Yesterday morning, the park experienced a sewage backup.

The kids playing at the splash park were evacuated, and the water was turned off.

The DEQ has been called in to investigate what caused the backup, and until they have answers, the park will stay closed.
