Groups Need Money to Protect the Great Lakes

Michigan Senator Carl Levin has introduced a bill to the U.S. Senate calling for funding to keep flowing to the Great Lakes.

The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative is one of two agencies Levin wants to keep funded.

After President Obama's proposed cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency in April, groups are worried more money will be lost.

Locally, the Grand Traverse Bay Watershed Center says they've already lost beach monitoring funding when the EPA's Beach Act was cut, so they're hoping nothing else in the bay will suffer.
