Twin Lakes Beach to Remain Open

Posted: Updated:

Despite three drownings in just three years, Twin Lakes Beach will stay open.

The Grand Traverse County Board of Commissioners had the choice tonight to vote on the future of the beach.

But they did not vote, and instead will continue with plans to make it a safer beach.

The county commissioners stood by a decision by the Parks and Recreation board last week.

They decided to keep the beach open and put in place new safety measures.

At Twin Lakes Beach located on North Twin Lake, buoys and a swimming perimeter have been set up.

There are also accessible life-saving rings right on the beach.

Commissioners say they are still looking into how they can make the beach a safer place for swimmers, but many have already taken notice of the new additions.

The next step for commissioners is working on getting call-boxes installed at the beach, and more lifeguards on duty.

9 & 10's Meredith Barack and photojournalist Jeff Blevins have more on what steps they've taken so far at the beach.
