A ferry that gets people to and from Beaver Island is still out of service.

Until the Emerald Isle is fixed, the Beaver Island Boat Company is using a smaller ferry called the Beaver Islander.

The larger ferry had engine issues Tuesday night on its way to Charlevoix.

The boat was forced to turn around.

The president of the Beaver Island Boat Company tells 9&10 News mechanics are working on the engine to determine how to repair it.

If necessary, the company is prepared to make extra trips, or bring in additional boats to meet the needs of passengers.

There is no timeline on when the Emerald Isle will be fixed.
