Oil and Condensate Fumes Cause Kalkaska Explosion

Posted: Updated:

The explosion sent two men to the hospital Wednesday night.

It happened while the pair were washing a truck at the American Waste Truck Wash in Kalkaska.

The local fire chief says the garage exploded when the flame from their steam cleaner ignited fumes from the back of the truck.

The two men were cleaning oil and condensate, a flammable byproduct of oil production.

The two men are still in the hospital and could be released this weekend.

9&10 News' Eric Lloyd and photojournalist Jeff Blakeman spoke with the fire chief today and have more details.
