Former State Police Commander Cleared of Drunk Driving Charges

Posted: Updated:

A former commander for the Michigan State Police has been acquitted of driving drunk.

William Smith was arrested after crashing in Chippewa County last July.

After a three day trial the jury found him not guilty.

He was the commander in Gladstone and was demoted to sergeant. Most recently he has been working in Gaylord.

The charge was dismissed last year because of a problem with a search warrant for a sample of his blood but was reopened in November.
