New Details on Child Death Arrest

Posted: Updated:

A baby boy is dead and now seven months later his father has been arrested in connection to his death.

Corey Boerner is accused of the death of his three-month-old son, Brantley.

The baby died back in October after he was taken to the hospital.

Police arrested Boerner on Thursday for the murder in Mio.

Michigan State Police say Oscoda EMS was dispatched to the child on October 6, 2012 because he was having difficulty breathing. The child was initially taken to Mercy Hospital in Grayling, but ended up at University of Michigan's Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor.

According to the investigative detectives affidavit, hospital staff determined the child had brain injuries that signaled child abuse and that he was healing from several rib fractures.

An autopsy was conducted and says the cause of death is abusive head and neck trauma, according to the affidavit.

The document also says Boerner admitted to shaking his son on more than one occasion, but not on the day Brantley was taken to the hospital.

According to the document, Brantley's mother was at work the day he was transported to the hospital with difficulty breathing.

The investigation took several months because the child's injuries were not obvious at the time of his death.

Boerner is currently out on bond.

No other arrests are expected in the case.
