Update: Leelanau County Woman Sentenced For Accident That Killed a Young Boy

In this update, a Leelanau county woman who admitted to failing to stop at the scene of an accident that killed a 4-year-old boy, will spend at least 16 months in prison.

Last July, Gavin Punter was hit while riding his tricycle next to his grandmother in Centerville Township.

Deputies say Gertrude Shorter, of Kasson Township hit the boy, then got out of her car and stood around while everybody looked for the little boy. 

Then she drove off. 

Shorter could spend up to 60 months in prison.

A Leelanau County woman pleaded guilty to failing to stop at the scene of an accident that killed a 4-year-old last July.

Gavin Punter was hit while riding his tricycle next to his grandmother in Centerville Township.

She will likely receive her sentence on June 24th.
