UPDATE: Police Call Off Charlevoix County Search

UPDATE - 12:30: Police have called off the search because they've exhausted all leads at this point.

A major search is underway in Charlevoix county for a man spotted carrying a hand gun with blood on his shirt.

The report prompted the precautionary lockdown of four schools: Boyne Falls Public School, Boyne Valley Education Center, Concord Academy Boyne and Boyne City Public Schools.

A witness spotted the man crossing M-75 near Dam Road just after 7:00 this morning.

That's less than a mile from Boyne Falls Schools.

This morning students were taken to the Education Center where they're being released to people authorized to pick them up.

Boyne Falls Public Schools and the Boyne Valley Education Center in Charlevoix County are on lockdown at this hour.

We have spoken with the administration at the school who say children are in a safe location, including those who were on the buses.

State Police say a man saw another man running on M-75 near Dam Road carrying a hand gun with blood on his shirt.

Troopers set up a perimeter around the area, K-9 is searching for him. They say the man is around 40 years old, with jean shorts and a light brown tee shirt.
