Chase Township Decide to Keep Library and Fire Protection

Posted: Updated:

A decision that will go to the people.

A millage will go on the ballot for both the library and the fire protection in Chase Township.

After a heated discussion on a budget causing controversy, residents in Chase Township finally came to an agreement.

They will keep funding both fire protection and the library, for now.

The township has been working to balance a budget and cuts had to be made to either the library or fire protection, the two biggest expenses. And tonight we learned the reason behind the budget woes. The township says they've spent thousands of dollars in unexpected legal fees.

The library will start fundraising right away in case their millage fails. If the fire protection millage fails, Chase Township will rely on Yates Township for fire protection instead.

9&10's Katie Boomgaard and photojournalist Jeff Blakeman have more details on tonight's decision.
