FEMA Assesses Newaygo County Flood Damage

Posted: Updated:

Homeowners in several counties are still struggling to get back up on their feet after severe flooding. Now the Federal Government is taking note.

Last month's flooding caused extensive damage to hundreds of homes along the Muskegon River.

The river reached 11 feet in spots, washing out several roads.

Many people were forced from their homes until the water levels dropped.

Damage costs are estimated to be around $6-million.

The state will review the reports and then decide whether they want to request a Presidential Disaster Declaration.

9&10's Katie Boomgaard and photojournalist Jake Johnson have more details on what the Federal Government is doing to help.
