UPDATE: Leelanau Co. Man to Spend 10 Months in Jail For Stealing a Cash Donation Jar

Posted: Updated:

In this update, one Leelanau county man will spend 10 months in jail for stealing cash donations meant for a cancer patient.

Court records show Benny Lopez Junior stole the donation jar from Deep's Corner Store in Northport back in January.

The money was supposed to go to a local man suffering from brain cancer.

He was previously sentenced to one year in jail for attempted larceny in a building.

Lopez also admitted to stealing scrap metal from a Northport business, and for stealing jewelry from a family member, all to support a pain pill addiction.

He will serve all sentences for all 3 cases, at the same time.
