A forest fire burned nearly 12 acres of state land on Chippewa County's Drummond Island yesterday afternoon.

The Drummond Island Fire Chief tells 9&10 News the fire was about seven miles from the nearest road.

Two separate departments were called in to clear a path to the fire around 1:30 p.m. Once they reached it, they worked until 8:00 last night to get it 100 percent contained.

Fire crews are back on scene today to put out hotspots and determine a cause.
