UPDATE: Power Restored in Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties

Nearly 2,000 people were without power in Leelanau and Grand Traverse counties this afternoon, but the lights are back on now.

Consumers Energy tells us the power went out around 1:30 this afternoon, and came back on around 3:00.

Consumers says about 1,900 people were in the dark, and about 600 of those were in Grand Traverse county, with the rest being in Leelanau county.

It happened when a truck hit a phone line, which then shorted out a power line.

A power outage in northern Michigan has left 1,990 people in the dark.

More than 600 in Grand Traverse county, and the rest in Leelanau county.

So far, the cause is unclear, but Consumers Energy says they do know the problem has to do with a power line and the substation it is incorporated with.

The outage started around 1:30 this afternoon.
