FAA Furloughs Could Impact Cherry Capital Airport Runway Extension Project

Posted: Updated:

FAA furloughs not only had an impact on flights, but on airport projects, even one at Cherry Capital Airport.

Due to forced federal spending cuts, Air Traffic Controllers were furloughed last week, creating delays nationwide.

Congress passed a bill allowing the FAA to take $253 million from a restricted account to pay for Air Traffic Controllers, the Airport Improvement Program which funds projects like the one planned at Cherry Capital.

The Airport Director says the project is slated to start in July, although they are saving money, they are unsure what will happen.
