An area of trees is being cleared out near the Wexford-Missaukee County Line.
The clearcutting is happening along Seeley Road between Boon Road and M-55 in Cadillac.
According to the Department of Natural Resources, an area of jack pine trees are being clearcut because some of the trees are diseased. The practice also mimics the effects of fire by removing shade and preparing the ground for seeds that fall to the ground.
The practice almost always draws concern from people who live nearby.
The DNR says the plan to plant red pine trees to replace the jack pines.
