Warm and Windy Conditions Create Brush Fire in Clare Co.

Posted: Updated:

A brush fire in Clare County left some homes slightly damaged, and fire officials say it could have been easily prevented.

The fire happened this afternoon in Clare County's Lincoln Township.

Firefighters say a man was burning brush and debris when the wind picked up causing the fire to grow out of control.

They say though we had a lot of rain, things are still very dry.

Forest Fire Officer Steve Schummer says, "It's been raining the last week, and with a lot of rain people think it's good to burn. But it only takes a few days with the wind and sun to dry things out, and it just doesn't take long before you get something to take off like this."

Firefighters say always check with the DNR before you plan on burning anything outdoors.
