Feedback at 5:00: Alcohol & Pregnancy

Posted: Updated:

Light drinking during a mother's pregnancy may not be as harmful as first thought.

Researchers in England looked at 10,000 7 year olds, and a quarter of them had mothers who drank lightly during pregnancy.

The other mothers didn't drink at all.

While the American Academy of Pediatrics says since there is no known safe amount of alcohol during pregnancy, it says pregnant women should not drink.

But, the study suggests they can have a small glass of regular wine every week or a half a pint of beer.

It shows the children's social and emotional development did not have differences in terms of harmful effects.

The study's authors say more research needs to be done to see if any developmental problems emerge later in childhood.

Some women say no drink is worth it.

What do you think of the findings? It's tonight's Feedback at 5:00.
