Volunteers Gathered for Annual Jerky for Troops Event

Posted: Updated:

Volunteers gathered to show support for service members at the sixth annual Jerky for Troops event.

Dozens of people came together to help box up jerky and other items for troops across the country and over seas in Big Rapids on Monday.

According to Colin Kelly of Kelly's Deer Processing, throughout the deer season the company collects meat from local customers and donations for the event. The meat is then turned into sticks and packaged for the troops.

This year about 60 boxes will be sent to service members. Kelly's Deer Processing, the ROTC and Family Readiness Group are behind the project.

Jerky for Troops is still in need of donations to help the ship the boxes. If you'd like to help go to kellysdeerprocessing.com or call Colin Kelly at 231.250. 8336.
