Grand Hotel Owner Dies of Heart Failure

The owner of the famous Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island died Saturday morning.

R.D. "Dan" Musser Jr. was 80-years-old.

Musser died of congestive heart failure at a hospital in Lansing.

He started working at the hotel in 1952 during college. At the time it was owned by his uncle. Musser eventually became president in 1960 and purchased the hotel with his wife. The Grand Hotel doubled in size and and the length of its season under Musser's ownership.

The hotel celebrated its 125th anniversary last year. The Grand Hotel has been in Musser's family for 80 years.
